News Flash: Suki Waterhouse Wore a Designer Dress for Princess Diana…

The public may be fascinated by the contents of modern royal wardrobes (think: Meghan Markle’s chic linen set or Kate Middleton’s timelessly tailored dresses) but there’s also an undeniable appeal in looking into the annals of royal fashion. Nearly 30 years after her passing, Princess Diana’s style remains as covetable as ever. Case in point: British singer, model and actress Suki Waterhouse recently donned a design created for Diana back in the 1980s.

Waterhouse, who most recently appeared as Karen Sirko on the show Daisy Jones & The Six, shared the look on TikTok. On the social media platform, the performer showed herself giving a spin in an off-white dress with beaded embellishment and a chevron hem, captioning the video “‘are your wearing the…’ The Zandra Rhodes dress that Diana wore to dinner in Kyoto? yeah… i am”. She added in the accompanying text that the dress is the cream version of Diana’s look, “but still princess”.

The style was designed by Zandra Rhodes, who revealed to The Times earlier this month that she’d originally crafted it in black, but made a pink version at the request of the Princess of Wales after she visited her shop in the mid-1980s. Diana went on to wear the look to dinner while on an official visit to Japan with then-Prince Charles in 1986.

Rhodes, would go on to dress Diana on several occasions was became so close with the royal that she was even invited to her funeral. She recently released a new book titled Iconic: My Life in Fashion in 50 Objects, sharing memories from her storied fashion career, including musings on the late princess. “Diana got a raw deal,” she explains, “You can have all the riches in the world, but if you don’t have love, or don’t feel loved, you have very little.”
