Travis Kelce Did Not Get This Obvious Taylor Swift Song Reference

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is about to marry pop sensation Taylor Swift and is even the subject of multiple songs that she’s written since their relationship began. However, that doesn’t mean that he’s going to get every song reference.

During the most recent episode of his New Heights podcast, which he films with his older brother, Jason, both Kelce brothers missed a pretty obvious reference to a Taylor Swift song that was actually written about him.

‘Wood’ and its Wordplay
Taylor made pretty clear references to her relationship with Kelce on her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department. However, one particular song on her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, made rather explicit reference to Kelce and his anatomy.

The song “Wood” uses some clever wordplay to cheekily make mention of a rather intimate part of Kelce’s body.

“Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see. His love was the key that opened my thighs,” Swift sings in the song.

Obviously, it’s not hard to figure out what Swift is singing about. And there were other references, too.

“Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet to know a hard rock is on the way,” she sings in the very next line.

She also mentions how Kelce’s “magic wand” broke a curse on her, and referenced his “New heights of manhood,” which is a pretty clear reference to the New Heights podcast.

Travis has previously addressed the lyrics, calling it a “great song” while feigning ignorance about any double meaning.

Kelce Misses the Reference
Though Swift’s song references Travis, his “Redwood tree,” and even his podcast, Kelce did not pick up a reference to the song that a New Heights listener made this week.

In the “New News” segment of the Jan. 21 episode of their New Heights podcast, Jason was quite confused by a fan suggestion for what they should print on their merch.

“‘I can’t believe none of the hoodies are called ‘New Heights of Man-Hoodie,’’” the former Philadelphia Eagles center read before adding, “I don’t know what the [expletive] that means, but she’s disappointed.”

“What’s that mean? What’s a ‘man-hoodie?’ Is that a thing?” Jason asked.

Even though it was a reference to a line from a Taylor Swift song written about him, Travis didn’t get the reference, either. They both needed producer Brandon Borders to fill them in.

“It’s a Life of a Showgirl reference, boys, come on,” Brandon explained to them. “The lyric, ‘New Heights of manhood,’ it’s the time we were referenced in the album.”

Both Travis and Jason were frustrated that they didn’t get the reference.

“I didn’t understand that,” Travis said. “Taylor’s going to kill me for not knowing that.”

“We’re not as good with the Easter eggs as these Swifties,” Jason said.

“They sure know how to plant them and call them out,” Travis added.
