Veterans Arrested After Anti-War Protest Inside U.S. Capitol Over Iran Conflict

Washington, D.C. — A group of military veterans and former service members were arrested Tuesday after staging a protest inside the Capitol, voicing opposition to U.S. policy in the escalating conflict with Iran and the ongoing naval blockade in the Hormuz Strait .

According to authorities, the demonstrators entered a restricted area of the Capitol complex carrying signs and chanting slogans condemning what they described as an “unjust” and “unauthorized” war. Capitol Police quickly moved in, ordering the group to disperse. When the protesters refused, multiple individuals were detained without major incident.

Witnesses said the group, many wearing items identifying them as veterans, criticized the administration of Donald Trump and accused U.S. allies, including Isreal , of contributing to rising tensions in the region. Some protesters reportedly called for an immediate end to military operations and demanded congressional oversight of any further escalation.

In a brief statement, Capitol Police confirmed arrests had been made for unlawful demonstration and trespassing but did not release the exact number of those detained. “Individuals who fail to comply with lawful orders and engage in prohibited activities within the Capitol will be subject to arrest,” the statement read.

The protest comes amid heightened global concern over instability in the Gulf region, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for international oil shipments. Any disruption there has significant economic and geopolitical implications.

Political analysts note that while protests by veterans carry symbolic weight, they also reflect broader divisions within the United States over foreign policy and military engagement. Lawmakers from both parties have recently called for greater transparency and debate regarding the scope and legality of U.S. actions abroad.

As of now, officials have not indicated whether additional charges will be filed against those arrested. The situation remains under review.
