Mahomes and Kelce Score First Touchdowns of Season in Brazil, but Chiefs Trail Chargers at Corinthians Arena

São Paulo, Brazil — The Kansas City Chiefs’ international debut in Brazil had plenty of fireworks, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Los Angeles Chargers’ early dominance. In front of a roaring crowd at the iconic Corinthians Arena, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce each scored their first touchdowns of the 2025 NFL season, thrilling fans who witnessed history in South America.

The Chargers, however, refused to be overshadowed. Bolstered by a sharp offensive performance and relentless pressure on defense, Los Angeles maintained control of the scoreboard, holding the defending Super Bowl champions at bay for most of the contest.

Mahomes electrified the crowd late in the first half, threading a precise touchdown pass that silenced the Chargers’ momentum and ignited chants of “Chiefs, Chiefs, Chiefs” from a sea of red-clad Brazilian fans. Moments later, Kelce added his own highlight, hauling in a tough catch in the end zone — his trademark chemistry with Mahomes on full display.

Despite the offensive surge, Kansas City trailed as Los Angeles capitalized on missed defensive assignments and special teams errors. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert orchestrated efficient drives, showcasing his connection with star wideout Keenan Allen, and keeping the Chiefs in chase mode.

The atmosphere at Corinthians Arena was electric, with more than 60,000 fans packing the stadium for the NFL’s first-ever regular season matchup in Brazil. Banners of both teams waved alongside Brazilian flags, marking a historic moment as American football continues to expand globally.

While the Chiefs will leave São Paulo looking to tighten their defense and regroup, the night belonged to the Chargers — and to the Brazilian fans who got a taste of NFL drama under South America’s lights.
