Trump Deploys Elite ICE Tactical Teams To Newark Following Attacks On Federal Agents

NEWARK, NEW JERSEY — President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deploy its elite Special Response Team agents into Newark following a series of violent confrontations and attacks targeting federal immigration officers during recent demonstrations.

According to federal sources familiar with the operation, the ICE SRT units — heavily armed tactical teams typically used for high-risk raids, riot response and dangerous apprehensions — arrived in Newark wearing full combat gear, armored protection and tactical equipment as tensions around immigration enforcement continued to escalate.

The move comes after several ICE officers were allegedly assaulted during chaotic protests near the Delaney Hall detention facility, where demonstrators clashed with law enforcement while attempting to block federal operations. Officials claimed agents were punched, kicked and threatened as crowds gathered outside the facility demanding an end to aggressive immigration raids in the city.

In response, Trump reportedly instructed federal authorities to “restore order immediately” and warned that attacks against federal officers would “not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Witnesses described seeing armored federal vehicles entering parts of Newark late Thursday night while heavily equipped ICE tactical personnel secured streets around federal buildings and detention centers. Videos circulating online appeared to show officers carrying shields, tactical rifles and riot-control equipment as protesters shouted anti-ICE slogans nearby.

Civil rights groups immediately condemned the deployment, accusing the administration of militarizing immigration enforcement and escalating tensions in an already volatile situation.

“This is an extreme and dangerous show of force,” one immigration advocate said during a press conference outside Newark City Hall. “Sending tactical teams into communities only increases fear and pushes the city closer to chaos.”

Federal officials defended the operation, arguing the deployment was necessary to protect agents and maintain public safety after repeated confrontations. A senior Homeland Security official stated that the SRT teams were authorized to respond rapidly to “credible threats against federal personnel and infrastructure.”

The developments have intensified the growing political battle between the Trump administration and several Democratic-led cities resisting federal immigration crackdowns. Newark leaders criticized the federal response and accused Washington of using the city as a political battleground ahead of the upcoming election season.

Despite mounting backlash, Trump allies praised the president’s hardline stance, arguing that stronger enforcement was necessary after violence against immigration officers increased nationwide.

As night fell over Newark, additional protests erupted near federal facilities while tactical officers maintained a visible presence throughout the area. Authorities warned that anyone interfering with federal operations could face arrest and possible federal charges.

The situation remains tense as activists vow to continue demonstrations while federal agents maintain expanded operations across Newark.
