USA Olympic Committee Accuses EU Authorities and Olympic Organizers of Failing to Provide Basic Athlete Support, Claims American Athletes Are Being Treated Unfairly Due to Rising EU–US Political Tensions amid Donald Trump’s Greenland ambitions
USA Olympic Committee Accuses EU and Olympic Organizers of Failing American Athletes Amid Rising Transatlantic Tensions
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has formally raised concerns over what it describes as unequal treatment and insufficient support for American athletes at the ongoing Olympic Games, accusing European authorities and Olympic organizers of allowing political tensions between the European Union and the United States to spill into international sport.

In a statement released this week, USOPC officials said U.S. athletes have experienced logistical setbacks, accommodation issues, transportation delays, and limited access to training facilities, conditions they argue fall short of the standards guaranteed under Olympic host agreements.
“Athletes should never become collateral damage in geopolitical disputes,” a senior USOPC official said. “The Olympic Games are meant to rise above politics, yet our team is being affected by circumstances clearly outside the field of play.”
Politics Behind the Dispute
The complaint comes against the backdrop of worsening EU–US relations, driven in part by renewed tensions over sanctions, tariff threats, and President Donald Trump’s controversial ambitions regarding Greenland, which have drawn sharp criticism from European leaders.
According to USOPC sources, frustration within parts of the EU over Washington’s trade posture and Arctic strategy has contributed to a strained atmosphere, one that U.S. officials believe has influenced how American athletes are being treated by local authorities and event organizers.
