In a bold move following the election of Donald Trump as President-Elect in 2016, actor Richard Gere, 75, has decided to relocate his family to Spain, a country that has become a new home for the Gere-Silva clan. Gere, best known for his roles in Pretty Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman, has spent much of his life in the United States, but after a period of reflection, he and his wife, Alejandra Silva, 41, have chosen to start a new chapter abroad.

“She gave me about seven years in the US,” Gere said, referring to his wife Alejandra, a Spanish public relations executive. “But it’s time to move on. The political situation and the direction the country was taking under Trump just didn’t feel like the right place for us anymore.”

The move to Spain is not just a political statement for Gere and Silva—it is also a chance for the couple to raise their two young children in a different cultural environment. While the Gere family has enjoyed a comfortable life in the US, Silva’s roots in Spain have always remained a significant part of her identity.
