Miley Cyrus Slam Selena Gomez’s ‘I Said I Love You First’ with Benny Blanco, claim the album was made to make Justin Bieber jealous. She states “She Settled for that doofus, a Guy Who’d Stick Around, but She’s Still Hung Up on Justin with This Fake Persona like back in Disney days”

Miley Cyrus Slams Selena Gomez’s New Album: A Desperate Ploy to Get Under Justin Bieber’s Skin?

In a move that’s reignited the ever-simmering Disney alum rivalry, Miley Cyrus has reportedly taken a sledgehammer to Selena Gomez’s latest musical endeavor, I Said I Love You First, a collaborative album with her fiancé Benny Blanco. The former Hannah Montana star didn’t mince words, allegedly branding the project as a “desperate act” aimed at stirring jealousy in Gomez’s ex, Justin Bieber, while throwing shade at Blanco as a “doofus” Gomez has settled for. According to sources close to Cyrus, she’s not buying the love story Selena’s selling—and she’s ready to call it out for what she sees: a calculated play dripping with unresolved baggage.

The album, released earlier this month, marks Gomez’s first full-length musical project in five years, a duet effort with Blanco that’s been billed as an intimate look into their relationship. Tracks like “Younger and Hotter Than Me” and “You Said You Were Sorry” have fans buzzing, with many speculating that the lyrics nod to Gomez’s tumultuous history with Bieber, whom she dated on-and-off from 2010 to 2018. But while Gomez and Blanco have insisted the album reflects their pasts and present love, Cyrus isn’t convinced. “She’s still mad it’s not with Justin Bieber,” a source claims Cyrus remarked. “But she clearly settled for that doofus who obviously would be loyal to her—even if she isn’t loyal herself. Even when she’s fake, just like how she’s been since Disney days.”

It’s a brutal takedown from Cyrus, whose own Disney roots as the effervescent Miley Stewart parallel Gomez’s rise as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place. The two have had a rocky history, from rumored feuds over Nick Jonas in the late 2000s to subtle jabs over the years. Now, with Gomez basking in the glow of her engagement to Blanco—a prolific producer who’s worked with everyone from Bieber to Rihanna—Cyrus seems intent on dragging her back into the tabloid mud. “Miley’s never been one to hold her tongue,” says an insider. “She sees Selena’s whole ‘happy in love’ vibe as a front, and she’s calling it out loud and clear.”

The timing couldn’t be more explosive. Bieber, now married to Hailey Bieber and father to their seven-month-old son Jack, has stayed relatively quiet since I Said I Love You First dropped. Yet, the internet hasn’t. Fans have dissected Gomez’s lyrics for shade, pointing to lines like “Don’t think about you / Happy without you” as potential digs at her ex. Meanwhile, Blanco’s involvement—once a close collaborator and friend of Bieber’s—adds another layer of intrigue. Reports surfaced last month that Bieber unfollowed Blanco on Instagram, with sources claiming he felt “offended” by Blanco cutting him out over the Gomez relationship. Could Cyrus be onto something?

Cyrus’s alleged comments paint Gomez as a woman still tethered to her past, with Blanco as the unwitting pawn in a game of emotional chess. “Benny’s loyal, sure,” the source quotes Cyrus. “But Selena’s playing a role she’s perfected since her Disney days—fake it ‘til you make it. This album’s less about love and more about proving a point.” It’s a harsh assessment, especially given Gomez’s public statements about the project. In a Spotify interview, she insisted, “Most of this album has nothing to do with what everyone may go to,” emphasizing growth and new beginnings with Blanco. Yet, Cyrus’s critique suggests a different narrative: that Gomez is stuck in a cycle of one-upmanship with Bieber, and Blanco’s just collateral damage.

The barb about Blanco being a “doofus” stings extra hard considering his reputation in the industry. The 37-year-old producer has a résumé that rivals the best, crafting hits like “Love Yourself” (ironically for Bieber) and “Teenage Dream” for Katy Perry. But Cyrus isn’t swayed by his credentials. “He’s loyal to a fault,” she allegedly sneered, implying Gomez settled for stability over passion. It’s a classic Miley move—bold, unfiltered, and guaranteed to spark headlines—just like her own evolution from Disney darling to provocative pop icon.

Fans are predictably divided. Team Selena has rushed to her defense, flooding X with praise for the album’s raw honesty and Blanco’s production chops. “Miley’s just jealous Selena’s thriving,” one supporter posted. “This album slaps, and Benny’s a king.” Others, though, are siding with Cyrus’s hot take. “She’s not wrong,” another X user wrote. “Selena’s been milking the Justin drama for years. This feels like more of the same.” The debate’s only fueling the album’s buzz—14.2 million streams in its first day on Spotify alone—but it’s also casting a shadow over Gomez and Blanco’s fairy-tale romance.

Whether Cyrus’s alleged rant holds water or not, it’s clear the ghosts of Disney past still loom large. Gomez has built a career on vulnerability, from Rare to her mental health advocacy, while Cyrus has leaned into rebellion and reinvention. Their paths may have diverged, but this latest clash proves the spotlight still loves pitting them against each other—and Bieber’s shadow isn’t fading anytime soon. As I Said I Love You First climbs the charts, one thing’s certain: Miley’s not letting Selena have the last word without a fight.
