Barack Obama Sues President Donald Trump for Abuse of Power and Selective Prosecution

Washington, D.C. — In a historic legal clash that has sent shockwaves through American politics, former President Barack Obama has filed a lawsuit against sitting President Donald Trump, accusing him of abusing the powers of his office and directing the Department of Justice to pursue a politically motivated prosecution.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court late Friday, argues that President Trump’s order to the DOJ constitutes an “unconstitutional weaponization of law enforcement” aimed at silencing and intimidating political rivals.

“This is not about politics. It’s about protecting the rule of law,” Obama said in a statement. “No president should be allowed to twist the Justice Department into a tool for personal revenge.”

According to court filings, Obama’s legal team asserts that Trump engaged in selective prosecution, deliberately targeting political opponents while ignoring alleged wrongdoing among his allies. The complaint cites legal precedents that limit presidential interference in federal law enforcement actions.

White House officials, however, dismissed the lawsuit as “a publicity stunt”, with one senior Trump adviser telling reporters, “President Trump is enforcing the law fairly. If Mr. Obama has nothing to hide, he has nothing to fear.”

Legal experts say the case marks uncharted territory. Never before has a former president taken legal action against a sitting president in federal court. Constitutional scholars warn that the outcome could redefine the limits of executive power for generations to come.

The lawsuit also raises profound political implications. Obama remains one of the most influential figures in the Democratic Party, and his decision to directly confront Trump could intensify partisan battles ahead of the upcoming election season.

Civil rights groups and legal watchdogs quickly rallied behind Obama, warning that unchecked presidential authority poses a grave risk to democracy. “If the courts side with Trump, it would set a precedent that any president can criminalize dissent,” said Maya Ruiz, director of the American Civil Liberties Forum.

As the legal drama unfolds, Americans are bracing for what could be the most consequential court fight between two presidents in U.S. history. The first hearing is expected within weeks, and both camps have vowed to fight all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.
