President Donald Trump has once again sparked controversy with his reaction to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of her retirement from Congress. In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump dismissed Pelosi’s decades-long political career with a curt remark: “Good riddance.”
Pelosi, who has served in Congress for over three decades and made history as the first woman to become Speaker of the House, announced earlier this week that she would be stepping down at the end of her current term. Her retirement marks the end of an era in Democratic leadership and a significant moment in U.S. political history.
While many political figures from both parties offered words of respect and reflection on Pelosi’s long tenure, Trump took a different tone. The former president and Pelosi have long shared a combative relationship, dating back to his presidency when shelled two impeachments against him.
Trump’s dismissive comment quickly drew backlash from critics who called it disrespectful and unbecoming of a former president. Supporters, however, praised him for his bluntness and refusal to offer what they viewed as “fake politeness” toward a long-time political adversary.
