Liam Payne’s Girlfriend Kate Cassidy Breaks Silence, Reflects on Singer’s Final Days After Grammy Tribute

February 6, 2025

In the poignant aftermath of the Grammy Awards 2025, where the music world paused to remember the late Liam Payne during the In Memoriam segment, his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has opened up about the singer’s final days, sharing a deeply personal reflection on love, loss, and the suddenness of tragedy.

Liam Payne, known for his time with One Direction and his solo work, met an untimely end in October of the previous year, falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The incident sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and left fans worldwide in mourning.

Cassidy, an American influencer who had been in a committed relationship with Payne since 2022, spoke to The Sun in her first interview since the tragedy. “It still doesn’t feel fully real for me that he’s not here,” she confessed, her voice heavy with emotion. Their relationship, she described, was one of profound love and mutual respect; she considered Payne not just her partner but her “soulmate.”

The Grammy Awards served as a stark reminder of Payne’s absence, with his name flashing across the screen amidst the somber tribute to artists who had passed away. This moment, while honoring Payne, also catalyzed Cassidy to share her story, hoping to shed light on the man behind the music.

She recounted their last days together in Argentina where they were enjoying life, full of love and optimism. “We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive,” Cassidy stated, emphasizing the contrast between those memories and the harsh reality that followed. She expressed regret over leaving Argentina before the incident, a decision made out of necessity to care for their shared dog, Nala, but one she would have reconsidered had she known the future. “Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina,” she said, her words echoing the pain of hindsight.

The interview also touched on the complexities of their relationship, with Cassidy acknowledging that they maintained separate lives at times. “But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn’t the first time we have traveled separately,” she explained, highlighting the normalcy of their situation before the tragedy struck.

The aftermath of Payne’s death has seen legal proceedings in Argentina, with five individuals charged in connection to the incident, three for manslaughter and two for supplying cocaine. Toxicology reports revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and antidepressants in Payne’s system at the time of his death, a detail that has fueled discussions about the pressures and pitfalls facing young stars in the music industry.

Cassidy’s reflections come at a time when the industry is grappling with how to better support its artists. Her words are not just a tribute to Payne but also a call to remember the human behind the celebrity
