Kansas City Chiefs urged to replace Harrison Butker with female kicker amid commencement speech controversy
The Kansas City Star recently stirred controversy by suggesting that the Kansas City Chiefs should replace their kicker, Harrison Butker, following his faith-based commencement speech at Benedictine College.
During his address, Butker suggested that many of the female graduates were likely more excited about marriage and motherhood than their academic achievements. He also criticized some Catholic leaders for “pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.”
The opinion piece, penned by Peter Hamm, proposed that the Chiefs hire a female kicker instead, calling Butker’s remarks outdated.
Despite being one of the NFL’s top kickers, the suggestion to replace Butker has been met with skepticism.
“For poetic justice after Harrison Butker’s Neanderthal outburst, and because the pipeline of talent is real, the Kansas City Chiefs’ next kicker should be a woman,” reads the piece.
“This is not a joke. It’s not unrealistic. And it would be good for business. Just ask the University of Manitoba how ticket sales were last year.
