Breaking news: Popeyes goes to WAR with Chick-fil-A in Taylor Swift-themed ad that features a hidden jab at their fried chicken rival
Popeyes is taking a page out of Taylor Swift’s songwriting book and calling out its competitor in an ad inspired by the pop star that has a hidden dig at Chick-fil-A.
The fast-food giant is showing their appreciation for their customers on May 17 by offering meat lovers a free chicken sandwich with any $10 purchase as it makes sure to remind loyal fans that – unlike Chick-fil-A – it’s open on Sundays.
In honor of National Customer Appreciation Day, Popeyes shared its latest deal – advertising it in the same vein as the Cruel Summer hitmaker’s newest album, The Tortured Poets Department.
And following in Taylor’s footsteps, it looks like the quick food service may have bad blood with Chick-fil-A as it revealed a secret message in the ad, which read, ‘Open Sundays,’ and was a nod to the the singer’s latest song thanK you aIMee, which spells out ‘Kim.’
Popeyes is giving back to its customers by giving them a free Golden BBQ Sandwich (in the form of 600 bonus points) with any purchase of more than $10.
‘The new promotion is a great option for guests looking to try the newest addition to the Popeyes sandwich platform, the Golden BBQ Chicken Sandwich,’ a press release said.
And while fans were excited to dig into a chicken sandwich, they were shocked at how the fast-food giant went about the ad.
The ad showed a chicken sandwich in a black-and-white photo. At the bottom it read, ‘Come Swiftly for This Deal.’
The theme was a clear nod to Taylor Swift’s latest album.
The additional text read: ‘pOPEyes says thaNks! rewardS members: yoU caN enjoy a golDen bbq sAndwich on us when You Spend $10.’
The hidden message that was spelt out with capital letters read, ‘Open Sundays,’ which was a hidden jab to Chick-fil-A because it is closed on Sundays.
‘You might see that Popeyes took a page out of a certain pop star’s playbook by dropping a subtle hint to our competitor, as well,’ the press release said.
The Hungry Loyalty Department promotion was released as a way for Popeyes to say thank you to its customers for National Customer Appreciation Day on May 17th.’
Swifties and Popeyes fans were quickly able to spot the ‘Easter egg’ as they have seen their favorite celebrity use the same tactic in the past.
Recently, Taylor released a song titled, thanK you aIMee, which spells out ‘Kim.’
It was reported that the hit was a dig at Taylor’s feud with Kim.
The song centers on Taylor’s apparent dislike for a mean schoolgirl she refers to as ‘Aimee’ – with fans convinced that the person she is actually singing about is Kim.
And now, foodies and Swifties can munch on a Popeyes chicken sandwich while continuing to try to decode more messages within the pop star’s album.
Reward members can take advantage of the limited-time offer until June 30 at participating restaurants.
The delicious deal is only available directly from Popeyes.
