Meghan Markle is facing intense backlash after it was announced that the Duchess of Sussex would be a keynote speaker alongside feminist icons including journalist Kaite Couric and actress Brooke Shields. The American festival South by Southwest made the announcement yesterday on Instagram. It read: “Announcing our final Keynote Session for the 2024 SXSW Conference!
“On March 8, International Women’s Day, join Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Katie Couric, Brooke Shields, Nancy Wang Yuen, and Errin Haines for a conversation on breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and working toward a healthier society on and off our screens.” Some fans were less than pleased with the revelation that Meghan would be on the panel.
One wrote: “I’m disappointed that Megan Markle was included. There are other female trailblazers that are better suited to speak on this topic.” Another added: “Why? Meghan contributes nothing but empty words.” While a third opined: “Grifter! It’s a pass for me.” Other fans, however, were excited that the Duchess would be included in the panel. One lamented that they would miss the event, writing: “We are we not arriving until the 10th?!?? We are so sad to miss this!!!!”
