Colin Farrell has revealed that he felt “so much shame” following the release of 2004’s Alexander.
Oliver Stone’s historical drama, which is based on the life of Alexander the Great and stars Farrell in the titular role, garnered scathing reviews following its release and bombed at the box office, grossing only $167 million worldwide against a $155 million budget, per Box Office Mojo.
The film was also nominated in six categories at the Golden Raspberry Awards in 2005, including a Worst Actor nomination for Farrell. It currently stands at a mere 16% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although Farrell’s career has since moved onwards and upwards, the Golden Globe winner still recalls the shame Alexander brought him and how it even caused him to doubt his ability as an actor.
“Expectation is a dangerous thing,” the Banshees of Inisherin actor shared during an actors’ roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter.
He went on to explain how they’d anticipated the film to be a major success, so when the reviews came out he “felt so much shame” and found himself in a place where he wanted to ask everyone he met, “Have you seen Alexander? If you have, I’m really sorry.”
