Rapper Tory Lanez Declared Stable After Prison Stabbing Incident

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized following a violent stabbing at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Authorities and Lanez’s team have since confirmed that the 32-year-old artist is now in stable condition, bringing relief to fans and sparking renewed discussions about prison safety.

The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. in a prison housing unit when Lanez was attacked by another inmate wielding a homemade shank. According to a statement posted on Lanez’s official Instagram account, he was stabbed 14 times, sustaining seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. The attack caused both of his lungs to collapse, requiring immediate medical intervention and placement on a breathing apparatus. Prison staff promptly responded, providing first aid and activating emergency services, before Lanez was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Bakersfield, California.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) confirmed the attack, with spokesperson Pedro Calderón Michel stating, “Staff immediately responded, activated 911, and began medical aid. Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment.” The CDCR, alongside the Kern County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Inspector General, is investigating the incident, though the motive for the attack remains unclear
