Taylor Swift is now an issue between Asean partners

Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said the Singapore government has reportedly agreed to a deal which will allow Taylor Swift to bring her Eras Tour exclusively to the island-state only and not anywhere else in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) region, leaving her fans in Thailand disappointed.

The development comes as the singer has six sold-out shows at Singapore’s National Stadium slated to take place next month.
Addressing a business event in Bangkok, Thavisin said that event promoter AEG had informed him of the agreement, adding that the Singapore government had offered USD2 million to USD3 million per show in exchange for exclusivity.

The Prime Minister noted that if the singer came to Thailand, it would be “cheaper” to organise it and also “attract more sponsors and tourists” to the country. Thavisin said his government is making efforts to bring more “A-list” artists to Thailand around the end of this year, which may not be possible as a concert of this scale requires a lot of arrangement.

According to reports, Taylor Swift had a sold-out concert in 2014 at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province. But it was cancelled suddenly, and no reason was provided for it. The Eras Tour is Taylor Swift’s ongoing sixth concert tour, paying homage to all of her 10 albums till date. This is her most expansive tour yet, with 151 shows across five continents. It is also the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first to surpass $1 billion in revenue.
