Taylor Swift Slams Donald Trump, Says He Should Focus on “Bringing Back the Government” and “Releasing the Epstein Files” Instead of Suing NBC Over SNL Sketch

Pop icon Taylor Swift has once again taken aim at former President Donald Trump, this time criticizing his administration’s latest move — a federal lawsuit against NBC following Saturday Night Live’s recent cold open that mocked Trump, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The White House legal team has accused NBC of a “blatant misuse of broadcast privilege,” claiming the sketch went beyond satire and amounted to defamation of the administration.

Swift, who has become increasingly vocal about political issues, didn’t mince words in her response. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Life of a Showgirl singer wrote that Trump “has far more important issues to deal with than comedians making jokes.”

“The American people don’t care about who mocked who on SNL,” Swift posted. “They care about paying for groceries, about the government actually functioning, and about transparency — like releasing the Epstein files. Maybe start there.”

Her comments quickly went viral, racking up millions of interactions within hours and sparking fresh debate about Trump’s priorities as the administration faces growing criticism over its focus on media feuds rather than policy challenges.

Swift’s statement comes amid reports of increasing frustration across the country as food prices continue to soar and parts of the government remain partially shut down following stalled negotiations on Capitol Hill. Many observers viewed her remarks as a sharp reflection of broader public sentiment — a call for leadership grounded in accountability rather than personal vendettas.

Political analysts note that Swift’s influence on younger voters remains formidable, particularly after she publicly urged her fans to register and vote in past elections. Her words now carry political weight well beyond pop culture.

“Taylor Swift isn’t just a celebrity anymore — she’s a political force,” said media analyst Rachel Conrad. “When she criticizes Trump, it resonates in a way that reaches millions of Americans who feel left behind or unheard.”

The White House has not yet responded to Swift’s comments, but several administration allies have dismissed them as “uninformed celebrity noise.” Still, the backlash from public figures and ordinary citizens alike suggests the controversy is far from over.

As the legal battle between the White House and NBC unfolds, Taylor Swift’s message has become the unofficial headline of the moment — a blunt reminder that, for many Americans, late-night comedy isn’t the real problem. The economy, transparency, and trust in government are.
