Travis Kelce Coach, Skip Bayless Criticized by Andy Reid Over Super Bowl Incident
Skip Bayless didn’t mince words when addressing Andy Reid’s response to Travis Kelce’s outburst during Super Bowl LVIII, accusing the Chiefs coach of compromising his coaching integrity for success.
Despite Kelce’s heated confrontation with Reid on the sidelines, which saw him visibly agitated and shouting, the experienced coach seemed unfazed and the two quickly reconciled.
The incident occurred as the Chiefs struggled in the first half, with Kelce’s frustration boiling over after a crucial play went awry. However, the team rallied in the second half, ultimately securing victory with Kelce playing a pivotal role.
Reports suggest that Reid intervened to prevent audio of the confrontation from going public and that Kelce apologized for his behavior. Yet, Bayless criticized Reid for overlooking the incident in pursuit of victory, questioning his principles.
“Good story in the NY Post by Ryan Glasspiegel indicates the Chiefs managed to keep NFL Films audio of Travis Kelce attacking Andy Reid from airing anywhere,” Bayless noted.
“No surprise. Kelce was verbally as well as physically abusive. No punishment. Andy sold his coaching soul for that SBowl.”
Despite the controversy, both Kelce and Reid have downplayed the incident, focusing instead on their shared success on the field.
While Bayless may have raised eyebrows with his critique, it seems the Chiefs are focused on moving forward after their Super Bowl triumph.
“He caught me off balance. I wasn’t watching,” Reid said after the game.
“He was really coming over [and saying], ‘Just put me in, I’ll score. I’ll score’. So, that’s really what it was. I love that. It’s not the first time. I appreciate him.”
