Travis Kelce’s Chiefs Win in Miami Comes Before Taylor Swift’s VMA Night
Travis Kelce’s busy Sunday took him from the football field in Miami to the center of attention surrounding wife Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated MTV Video Music Awards night.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was scheduled to face the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, with the game taking place only hours before the 2026 VMAs in Los Angeles.
Despite speculation that Kelce could somehow make the cross-country trip after the game, reports published ahead of the ceremony indicated that he would not attend the VMAs because of his NFL commitment.
The scheduling conflict was particularly notable because Swift was expected to be one of the biggest names at the ceremony. She was set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors, while her “Patient Zero” music video was also scheduled to premiere during the broadcast.
Kelce’s focus first remained on the Chiefs’ matchup in Miami. Kansas City entered the game with a 2–0 record, while the Dolphins were looking for their first victory of the season.
The Chiefs star has continued to receive plenty of attention this season because of his relationship with Swift, but the NFL schedule created a rare occasion in which the couple had major commitments on opposite sides of the country.
Swift has previously supported Kelce at Chiefs games, while Kelce has also attended major events connected to Swift. Their first award-show appearance together came at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, according to NBC News.
For the 2026 VMAs, however, the timing meant Kelce could not simply leave Miami and arrive in Los Angeles before the ceremony began. Reports noted that the Chiefs game and the awards show were separated by several hours and thousands of miles.
As Swift prepared for her major VMA appearance, Kelce remained focused on his Chiefs responsibilities in Miami, leaving the singer to potentially celebrate her latest career milestone without her husband physically beside her at the ceremony.
