Whoopi Goldberg Blasts Donald Trump’s Superman Stunt as “Laughable on ABC talk show ‘The View’,” Says He and Elon Musk Are “Disasters That Shouldn’t Have Happened to This Country,” While Also Delivering A Brutal Critique To James Gunn’s Superman

Whoopi Goldberg Unleashes on Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Superman Reboot: “A Mistake America Should Never Have Made

In a fiery and unfiltered segment on The View, Emmy and Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg did not hold back as she sounded off on three controversial figures dominating headlines: Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and James Gunn’s latest Superman film.

During Monday’s broadcast, Goldberg veered off-script while discussing Trump’s recent social media post, where the former president shared an AI-generated poster depicting himself as Superman with the caption “The world needs a real hero again.” The poster, which quickly went viral among Trump supporters, sparked outrage—and Whoopi had some thoughts.
“Donald Trump portraying himself as Superman? Give me a break,” Goldberg scoffed. “He’s the antithesis of what Superman represents—truth, justice, and selfless courage. Trump doesn’t stand for any of that. He stands for chaos, ego, and cruelty. He wants to wear the cape, but he lacks the character.”
The veteran actress didn’t stop there. She tore into what she called “the disturbing normalization of ego-driven billionaires,” singling out Elon Musk as another example of what she called a “national misstep.”
“Let’s be honest: Elon Musk and Donald Trump are both a mistake America should never have made,” she said bluntly. “One’s obsessed with rockets and chaos, the other with power and delusion. Neither of them belongs anywhere near symbols of hope or leadership.”
Goldberg also criticized director James Gunn’s newly released Superman: Legacy, which has been both celebrated and criticized for its modern take on the iconic hero. While the film performed well at the box office, Goldberg called it “soulless and out of touch.”
“They stripped Superman of what made him relatable,” she said. “It’s all about flash and fan service now. We don’t need another shiny cape—we need stories with heart, with moral clarity. James Gunn’s version is more corporate than courageous.”
The segment, which quickly trended on social media under the hashtag #WhoopiUnfiltered, drew mixed reactions. Some praised Goldberg for “saying what needed to be said,” while others accused her of politicizing pop culture. But as usual, the outspoken co-host stood firm in her convictions.
“I grew up believing that Superman was a symbol of something better,” Goldberg concluded. “Trump using that image to boost his ego isn’t just pathetic—it’s dangerous. Because we’re letting people who don’t understand compassion pretend they’re heroes.”
With election season heating up, and cultural tensions at an all-time high, Goldberg’s comments struck a nerve—reigniting conversations about leadership, legacy, and who gets to wear the cape in a divided America.
