U.S. President Donald Trump has wrapped up his closely watched visit to Beijing with little to show in terms of major diplomatic or economic breakthroughs, according to Chinese officials and multiple international reports.
The two-day summit between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping was filled with lavish ceremonies, symbolic gestures and public praise between the two leaders, but key disputes between Washington and Beijing remain unresolved.

Chinese state media and international observers noted that no agreement was reached on several major issues that had dominated expectations ahead of the trip. That includes the ongoing Iran crisis, tensions surrounding Taiwan, restrictions on advanced AI chip exports such as Nvidia’s H200 processors, and China’s rare earth export controls.
Trump had reportedly hoped Beijing would provide stronger cooperation in pressuring Iran and helping stabilize global oil shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz. However, China stopped short of offering any firm commitments beyond general calls for stability and opposition to nuclear escalation.
Taiwan also remained a major flashpoint during the summit. Xi reportedly warned Trump that mishandling the Taiwan issue could lead to “serious conflict,” while Trump avoided making any clear new commitments regarding U.S. military support or arms sales to the island.
