WASHINGTON, D.C. – A much-touted ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, personally brokered by former President Donald Trump, has collapsed barely 24 hours after it was announced, marking a stunning and rapid diplomatic failure.
The agreement, which Trump had hailed as a “historic breakthrough” and “a total victory for peace” during a hastily arranged press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, lay in tatters by Wednesday morning as reports of fresh cross-border strikes and military movements emerged from the region.
Promises of Peace Fade Overnight
Just one day ago, Trump had described the deal as proof that “only strength and direct negotiation” could bring Iran to the table. The proposed agreement reportedly included a 90-day mutual halt to proxy warfare, a freeze on uranium enrichment beyond certain limits, and a partial lifting of U.S. secondary sanctions.
“This is a great deal for everyone,” Trump told reporters. “Iran knows they have no choice. We have a beautiful peace.”
But within hours, officials from both sides were trading public accusations.
‘Clear and Immediate Violations’
According to a senior administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the first violations were detected less than six hours after the signing ceremony concluded. The official alleged that an Iranian-backed militia in Iraq launched a drone attack targeting U.S.-affiliated personnel, while Iranian state media reported that an
